The Second Prominent Jyothirlinga of the twelve is the Mallikarjuna Shrine of Srisailam! According to the inscriptional evidence from the Satavahana dynasty, the temple complex has been renovated in 2nd century AD. King Harihara I of the Vijayanagara Empire, renovated the temple again and The veerasheromandapam and paathalaganga stairs were constructed during the time of Reddi Kingdom.
With four towering pagodas, the Vimana shines bright with its plated gold. The temple complex has numerous oblong halls; the most notable is the Mukha Mandapa, constructed by the Vijayanagar Empire.
The temple stands tall facing East, enclosed by tall walls measuring 600 ft by 499 ft and 28 ft tall. The Temple holds exquisite architecture along with sahasra lingam believed to be commissioned by The Ram and five glorious lingas commissioned by the Pandavas. The Temple can be seen above the head of the Nandi situated above the hill, only by focussed individuals, is the very uniqueness of the temple.
